When you are looking for a new silver ring it is important to find the right size for the finger you want to wear it on. Your jeweller should be able to help you to find the right size but there are a few ways to figure out what size is the right.

How should a comfortable silver ring fit on your finger?

You will know if the ring is the right size but if you aren’t 100% if the ring you have chosen is the right size, consider these things.

1.The silver ring should not fall off, but it must be able to easily slide over your knuckles. The ring mustn’t move around a lot or twist around your finger, but it also must not be too tight and uncomfortable. Remember when you are measuring your finger to take into account your knuckle size as well.

2.There is a very small difference between ring sizes, the circumferences differ between 2-3mm. If you are not sure where your size fits on the chart, opt for the larger size.

3.A Comfort Fit ring is a ring that puts less metal into contact with the finger, this does result in them being a little looser than a normal ring.

4.Remember that your finger size will change on the temperature, diet, and activity. This means that your ring may be tighter at certain times of the day. You are probably going to want to take more that one measurement.

How to measure your finger at home.

1.Find a piece of string or a strip of paper at least 6” long.

2.Wrap it around the base of the finger you want the silver ring for. Don’t make it too tight and make sure it is wrapped around the base.

3.Clearly the mark the piece of string/paper.

4.Lay the paper or string on a ruler to measure how long it is.

5.Rings do come in standard sizes, so once you have measured your finger you can look at a conversion chart for the size that will work best.

6.Your fingers are not the same size, even the same finger on the opposite hand are different sizes so measure each finger individually.

Important: The size of your finger will change during the day. It will shrink when it is cold and expand when it is hot. So, it is often a good idea to take your measurements over a period of 3 days at the same time, to just check the measurement. A silver ring has to slip over the knuckle of your finger, so you need to also keep that in mind. If your knuckle is much larger than the base of your finger, measure both the knuckle and the base and then look for a size in between that. If you choose a size that is too big for the base, it will move around making it uncomfortable.

Not all silver rings can be resized.

If for some reason you got the ring size totally wrong or received a ring as a gift and it is too small or big, you might be able to resize it. Not all ring designs can be resized, so it is important to make sure of the size before you buy a ring, especially if you are making a big investment.

Not all rings can be resized. Generally, eternity rings, ornate bands and silver rings can’t be resized. Designers often symbolize which pieces can’t be resized so that you know which pieces to pay extra attention to. If the size needs to be changed a lot then the price and quality may increase or decrease, depending the design of the silver ring.

So, it is always best to make sure you do everything you can to ensure your new ring is the right size.

If you are trying to find out the ring size of someone else because you want to have a surprise ring made for them. The safest thing to do is to use a ring that the person always wears. You can possibly ask family or friends if they know the size of the ring, but this is also a gamble.
